Mod: Massive?

Most people I hang out with aren’t into DnB, instead it's more like trance, techno... but they think my tracks sound different. I don’t know what people's reactions to me are since I lay low...I hope folks think about my tracks, they aren’t just for the "floor."

Mod: What’s on yer decks?

I like Squarepusher and "different" stuff - stuff with the same break, the same bass... I like techstep but I don't want to hear that all night...I think DJs don’t always know what people want - DJs are on a pedestal, they don’t want to play something different so they get a bad response and hurt their image.

Mod: How did ya get started...?

My brother has always been into dance stuff. I have always been into hip hop, but it was getting old. My brother had a mix tape with hip hop samples - it was something completely new to me....THE BASS!... Now, I have a very nice studio that I'm proud of. I used to make hip hop, but I never sent it out. My first tracks were around 145 bpm - for weeks on end I was trying to get the bass alone...messing with low pass filters...I can't make a track without filters. I sent out my first jungle tape and jungle sky was into it. I could've had a 12" out on jungle sky but I had all these samples in it. the contract said if we get sued, we'll sue you - so I went back and produced tracks with less samples. Now I send a lot of shit out and get no response.

Mod: What is it that will make your stamp on DnB?

It's drum ‘n’ bass but there's always something different than the average. It's a good track and I haven’t heard that before...push being different. In general, I try to push the limits...I want to make a track that makes people go "wow"...but instead now something comes out and everyone follows it for dance floor.

Mod: What do you think about blending hip hop and DnB?

I don’t know anyone else who makes jungle records. I just dig through my hip hop records and find a break and cut it up.

Mod: London?

I can't fathom being in a place where I could here dance music...there's no dance music on the radio. We have hip hop on Friday nights...it's hard to know what it would be like to hear a jungle track...

Mod: How long does it take to make a track?

I don’t know, tracks take me about a month to 2 months - mine change a lot, have all different parts changing. By the time it's done I'm sick of it. But I play 'em for my friends and they say "hey that’s cool."
